Oil Painter
I’m Scott, and I’m a Plein Air oil painter - born and raised in western New York State - residing once again along the Erie Canal, in Fairport, NY.

A lifetime of fresh-air adventures now pulls me back outside to capture the enchanted places of the Realm of a Well-Spent Youth before they are lost to time and "progress".
My painting style was once referred to as "abstracted realism" …
… a mercurial, off-hand comment that may, or may not, have been the complement I initially perceived it to be all those years ago.
But today, by learning to lean into that phrase, I strive to find a balance between capturing scenes faithfully enough to connect with my collector’s lived experiences - while not denying ALL viewers the opportunity to see their own memories and daydreams in the abstractions.
My preference, whenever possible, is to escape the relative comfort and distractions of a studio by heading out into the fresh air with my paint.
A questionable weather day never fails to reveal colors and patterns that breath new life into familiar scenes.
But, when the wind is a bit too high, and the temps are a bit too low, capturing a still life of family heirlooms or other numinous objects in the studio affords me a rare, but welcome, opportunity to crank up the tunes and paint in my pajamas.
I have no formal Art School education - but to call myself a "self-taught artist" would unintentionally slight every artist who's been generous to share with me their Time, Tips, Tricks, and Talents.
I will always consider myself a lifelong learner, but it feels good to now be in a position to begin to share my time and experiences too.
If my work unearths a long-lost memory, or nudges you to get out into the fresh air for yourself, then maybe I’ve managed to do my job.
Thanks for visiting my site.

Some days it’s oil paint.
Some days it’s cat hair.
Most days I’m covered in both.
…. It’s why we can’t have nice things.
